Puerto de las Nieves
The other place I enjoyed on this holiday was Puerto de las Nieves on the West Coast. (I actually went out his way to see the small botanical garden at Agaete but it was closed). The port is a 10 minute walk from Agaete and comes to life when the ferry from Tenerife arrives. It has a small fishing fleet and
This is a striking natural harbour where the mountains rise up right from the sea and a huge section of mountain overlooks the harbour and town. There is also an interesting chapel (first mass in 1566 according to the plaque, rebuilt in the 1860s). It has a collection of model ships on the walls and a beautiful Flemish triptych above the alter (said to be 16th Century by Joos van Cleve.)
Fish for lunch
I was lucky to see someone catch a large fish from the pier. It must have been unusual because several people gather around to congratulate the fisherman.
