Cambodia : Siem Reap
FCC, Siem Reap, Cambodia
Siem Reap (the town near Angkor Wat) may not be the ‘real Cambodia' but it is certainly a relaxing place to spend time. It has a big choice of places to eat and drink (lunch at the Foreign Correspondents Club was a special treat). It remains to be seen if the town will be ruined by the ‘development’ which is taking place out of Highway 6.

Riverside view
I assume that this was originally the base for correspondents, but nowadays it is the haunt of tourists and Cambodians with a bit of money. While it is not expensive by London standards ($12 for a good salad and beer), it is possible to eat more cheaply near the Old Market. So if you are having lunch (or dinner) at the FACC, I recommend that you allow plenty of time to savour the setting and enjoy the food.
Lunch on the balcony
It is also possible to simply stop in for a drink (I think they have Happy Hours in the early evening).
I liked the balcony which has a view of the river. Because the building is set well back from the road, you need not be bothered with traffic.
