Dambulla rock caves

Dambulla rock caves are widely touted as a major site in Sri Lanka. The 300 steps to the top seemed like 3000 in this heat and frankly, the frescoes were hardly worth it. The memorable part of this stop will be walking barefoot and hatless across acres of very hot stone in full sunlight to get to the caves. Lots of tourists here and it must be a money maker at $10 a throw .. I enjoyed the previous stop at Matale much more. This seems much more of a tourist site than a religious one.
