The Canadian Rockies
The Canadian Rockies are a World Heritage Site because of their magnificent beauty. The train journey through them is only part of a coast to coast train covering the vast expanse of Canada. I joined the train in Edmonton (the less said the better) at 7:30 in the morning, travelled overnight and disembarked in Vancouver the next morning. Luckily, the train stopped in Jasper for over an hour ; a surprisingly small town in the middle of a national park. It is surrounded by mountains which form this dramatic backdrop but somehow, each one looks different.
The train itself is not as smart as a French or Swiss counterpart but its major advantage is the high quality of its food.
